Pedicure 411
Another weekend is here. And that means its time for that mani and pedi!
But I bet you never realized that you can be exposing yourself to many dangers that can affect your heath and your nails!
Lets go over two of the most crucial things to know the next time you step foot in a salon:
Never ever ever shave your legs within 24 hours of getting a pedicure:
How many times have you looked down at your legs and realized that they are not ready for their one to one interaction with the nail tech? And how many times have you shaved that morning right before heading out? Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that is the worst thing you can do. When shaving you can potentially create microscopic nicks in the skin that allow pathogens (fancy word for bacteria) to enter! Never shave within 24 hours of getting a pedicure.
Never ever ever get a pedicure in a salon that has pedicure jets but does not use liners:
You might want to sit down for this one. Based on proper disinfection procedures the tech must run disinfectant solution through the unit to circulate for approximately 10-15 min after EVERY CLIENT. Spraying the foot bath is not enough! Why you ask? Because when the jets get turned back on the water from the previous person gets mixed in with yours. And you have NO idea what that person had on their toes and their feet. And with the foot bath being the ideal atmosphere for fungus to thrive now you can see why so many of us get fungus on our toes.
Moral of the story? Let your nail tech marvel at your leg hair and make sure you yell out no jets for me prior to getting that pedi.
Enjoy your weekend!

Dasha
